Painting murals on your own can be fun and easy. Most murals can be started and completed within a few days but if this is your first time setting a goal of painting a wall mural, here are a few steps to follow when doing so.
Your first step will be to clean, clear out and prepare your area. Some professional muralist charge extra fees for doing so. Cleaning and preparing an area may take up to a day depending on the size and location of the wall mural. Any furniture you do not wish to get paint or debris on should be covered or taken out.
Next, wipe down the walls that you will be painting murals on. Wiping down the walls will help prevent the paint from cracking and will help apply the paint much more smoothly. Make sure to sweep off any cob webs or dust for better application of paint and to help give the wall mural a cleaner look. Preparing your walls will be next and will take time. Tape off any walls you do not wish to get paint on and do not forget the ceiling. Using masking take is usually used for this because it is easily removable and will not damage your wall or mural. Remember to lay a drop cloth on the floor and to tape it down to keep it from moving once you begin painting the mural.
Before you begin painting murals have a design or concept developed so that the process of painting the wall mural won’t be slowed down once you begin. Most muralists can help you design an original concept for your mural others will use templates. After you have decided on your design gather your materials. You will need a step stool, paint, paint brushes varying different sizes, mixing tool, empty paint containers to pour paint into and music to listen to while you work.
Quickly paint a basic layout or sketch of your painting with a thin paint brush to begin. You will be adjusting the sketch as your add paint and your mural will develop as you continue to work. Do not be afraid to begin or to make mistakes. It is just paint on a wall and you can always paint over any mistakes you make. During painting your wall mural, step back and look at your painting to have a better view of what you have already painted. Doing this, will allow you to catch any parts of your mural you do not like or wish to adjust.
Depending on the size and the time you spent preparing your area, painting murals can take up to a few days. Hiring a professional muralist can cut the time shorter due to more experience and their skill in painting therefore making the process of painting murals faster but creating a mural of your own for your business or home can be fun and exciting. Painting murals can add color excitement and depth to any room so consider painting a wall mural for your business or home. Don’t forget to have fun!
